What do you broadcast

Not sure if this is the right place to post this

But what kind of part 15 stations does every one have   example  do you play oldies  classic rock.  Old time radio   format  I my self will be broadcasting like local artist   with old time radio  and some syndicated shows like  saving the 70s   and doo wop  shows 60s and 50s shows  but wI'll focus on local artist  and things

I do oldies

I do mainly 50s 60s and 70s rock and roll hits( but not limited to just that) with a sprinkling of eighties mainly for Canadian content and songs by artists that carried over from the 70s to the eighties. I do about 20% fifties...40% sixties( all the sixties from 1960 to 69)... 35% seventies and 5% eighties. The AM hit parade era.

Also do Chickenman episodes in the mix also.

What HBR broadcasts

I try to stay away from music due to licensing and copyright issues.  I try to broadcast thoughtful talk, news, or discussion programs like Big Picture Science, American Family Farmer, Life Underground, The Stuph File, Low Power Hour, Current Cast, Client Connections, Sunday Morning News with world famous newscaster Carl Blare, plus a mix of Old Tyme Radio, and a bunch of PSAs that the township sends me weekly to broadcast.  See http://www.airpower.com/serv03.htm .

50s and early 60s oldies here

50s and early 60s oldies here.....from CD AND vinyl....

Sunday morning is "news and public affairs" -- Between the Lines, Century of Lies, Progressive Spirit, and Tech Nation.....

"Official" launch of the full format is slated for next March...being a "one-man show", I have to structure my programming "day" around my personal schedule --- NOT EASY!!:(

Greetings To Rocknoldies1570

The Trouble With Requests

TheLegacy offers:  "We take requests from the people within range and from the internet as well."

But what do you do if the request is for the wrong type of music?

What if someone asked for a "Hot Chili Cha Cha" by Prez Prado?

At least if they asked for Tchaikovsky's 8th Symphony you could tell them "Tchaikovsky didn't write an 8th symphony."

Requests

I guess you do what any station would do with a request that's not the format....ignor it.

Good station Id and logo.

Logo

Mark,

Thanks very much.  For the logo, let me give credit where it is due.  Doug Newsome, of BBSRadio.com, created it for me.  He offers tons of free programming and is happy to have Part 15 stations as affiliates.  I recommend everyone check it out!

The Building of a Radio Service

Jim, I have been an interested follower of your progress from the day you started with an AMT5000 and built your station one piece at a time.

You are a builder and in the years to come it will be great to see HBR grow and become more and more of a community service in the Township and surrounding area.

Thanks!

Thanks Carl, I appreciate the moral support. I also appreciate the support I get from the town, even though I reach very few households. I think that one reason is that I try to give back as much as I can. In another forum dedicated to another one of my hobbies, one member was lamenting how he didn't know anyone in the town government. Well when I moved here 11 years ago I didn't know anyone either!  Then I saw an ad in  the local paper. The town was seeking a volunteer to become a Director of an "Adopt a Highway" program they wanted to start. The state has one of course but very few towns have one for their township maintained roads.  So I volunteered, researched it, developed all the requirements (you don't want an unsavory organization like the KKK sponsoring a road!), processes, procedures, and required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment). Got it run through and approved by the township attorneys.  Then I was done but I got a lot of "street cred" and appreciation for it.  So next I joined the volunteer Fire Company not as a firefighter but as a Fire Police Officer. About 13-14 states have state chartered Fire Police, most corresponding to the original 13 colonies. Made more connections that way.  Now, here I am with some free promotion on the town's web site and in their print newsletter! I have recently volunteered to help the town in inventorying all their historic sites. When I went to the council meeting, what I heard was, "Oh you're the radio guy!". Sweet!
